Chakra Meditation For Everyone!

by Jonathan Benjem

Meditation is considered as a powerful form of self-realization and self-healing. There are various methods by which you can meditate, but perhaps, the most potent of all is the Chakra Meditation.

Chakra Meditation ” A Primer

Quite simply, Chakra Meditation refers to the process of balancing and energizing all the 7 energy centers (Chakras) in order to align the flow of energy through them. These 7 energy centers, or the Chakras, are:

1. Root or Base Chakra located at the base of the spine and related to the element Earth. It governs our general health, prosperity, and security.

2. Orange or Naval or Sacral Chakra located at the center of abdomen and related to the element Water. It governs our emotions and sexuality.

3. Throat Chakra is situated at the base of the throat. It is related to the Sound element, which governs our creativity, communication ability, and resonance.

4. Heart Chakra governing your general relationships, and feelings of love and compassion is located at the center of the chest and related to the element Air.

5. Throat Chakra governing your sense of creativity, resonance and communication skills is located at the base of the throat and related to the element Sound.

6. Brow Chakra governing your power of imagination, visualization, and interpretation is located between the brows on the forehead and related to the element Light.

7. Root Chakra, also called the Base Chakra, is situated at the base of the spine. It is related to the Earth element, which governs our overall health, security, and prosperity in life.

If you want to reinvent yourself and bring back those vitalizing moments in your life, then theres no substitute to Chakra Meditation. If these vital seven Chakras are rotating in sync, physical, mental, and spiritual well being is assured. Thus, you can safely conclude that Chakra Meditation is the key to overall health of your life, taken as a whole.

Chakra Meditation ” The Process

Chakra Meditation is the sum total of the following three techniques:

1. Grounding Technique, which aims at making the body feel connected with Earth. You just need to visualize a root growing from your body and entering into the Earth. This requires intense focus and mental presence during the act of visualization.

2. Centering Technique, which aims at preparing your body to receive the benefits of Chakra Meditation. Just take three to five deep breaths and visualize relaxation of every body part from toe to crown. In simple words, just tighten and relax each body part from toe to the crown, and then visualize the act of centering a pot on a pottery wheel.

3. Relaxation Technique. The Relaxation Technique is the primary act in the entire Chakra Meditation process. Everyone has his or her own method of relaxation. Just find out your preferred mode of relaxing the body and stick to it. In a nutshell, Chakra Meditation is all about relaxing, visualizing, and directing the flow of energy through the seven energy centers (Chakras).

Here is a simple method of performing Chakra Meditation:

a) Sit or lie down in a position that is most comfortable for your body.

b) Loosen all your clothing so that there is no tension on any part of the body, and close your eyes.

c) Breathe in a relaxed manner, which is neither too fast nor too slow. Let the breath come naturally!

d) The next step relates to feeling every part of your body from toe to head in that direction. While your eyes are closed, try to feel everything that you wouldve seen with open eyes, like earth, air, clothes, surroundings etc. The idea is to feel awareness even with closed eyes.

e) Initially, your efforts will be met with stiff resistance from negative thoughts and emotions. Dont suppress them! Theyll disappear with time and practice.

f) Dont hinder your awareness! Let it flow freely from one part of the body to another.

This exercise can be done at any time of the day and for any duration of time. However, the longer the better!

Atkins Forever? How Long Should You Stay On The Atkins Diet?

by Jessica A. Andersen

The Atkins Diet was designed to be lifestyle diet by Dr. Robert Atkins in the 1970s. Dr. Atkins is proponent of Dr. Atkins is a proponent of ketogenic fat burning, which is achieved by eating fewer than 40 grams of carbohydrate each day. He also recommends the use of dietary supplements to help balance nutrition and the bodies systems.

The Atkins Diet is divided into four stages: the Induction diet, the Ongoing Weight Loss diet, the Pre-Maintenance diet, and finally the Lifetime Maintenance diet.

The Induction Diet Stage severely limits carb intake, only 20 grams are allowed for 14 days. The recommended source of carbs is low starch vegetables. Following this stage is the OWL diet.

The OWL phase allows for the reintroduction of certain good carbs but the levels are kept below 40 grams a day. Dieters stay on OWL until they reach their ideal weight. Once the ideal weight is reached dieters transition into the Pre-Maintenance diet, where they experiment with reintroducing certain good carbs until they discover their carb tolerance level (the total carb grams they can consume in a day and not gain weight).

When dieters finally comprehend the total number of grams of carbs they can consume and maintain their ideal weight they’ve reach Lifetime Maintenance. Here the participants will continually avoid processed foods, sugar, white flour, and hydrogenated oils and fats.

Aromatherapy’s Core Antidepressant: Sweet-Tart Bergamot

by Judy Bash

Bergamot essential oilis subtle and uplifting, uniting one of the most enticing perfume aromas with the transformative potential of this plant’s powerful healing effects. The light green oil is pressed from the peels of the nearly ripe bitter oranges, with an scent like candy for grown-ups; the bright top note combines a fresh sweet-tart orange with slightly spicy balsamic undertones. A member of the botanical family Rutacae, the Bergamot tree (Citrus bergamia) grows up to 15 feet high and yields small round fruit that look much like miniature oranges. The Bergamot essential oil used in aromatherapy should not be confused with the familiar bergamot plant, also known as ‘bee balm’, an herb indigenous to North America.

Originating in tropical Asia, the Bergamot tree is now widely grown in Italy; it is named after the Italian city of Bergamo, where the essential oil was first sold for perfumery. The extremely tart fruit is not edible, thus Bergamot tree being primarily cultivated for its essential oils. It is one of the most popular essential oils used in perfumery – approximately one third of men’s colognes contain Bergamot, and nearly one half of women’s perfumes. Bergamot is the magic ingredient in Earl Grey tea, adding natural citrus notes to the black tea’s flavor.

Fresh Bergamot essential oil has nearly 300 compounds: mainly linalyl acetate (30-60 %), linaool (11-22%) and other alcohols, sequiterpenes, terpenes, alkalines, and furocoumarins (including bergapten 0.30-0.39%). Certain furocourmarins, notably bergapten, have been found to be photosensitizing (causing an increased sensitivity to ultraviolet rays), hence Bergamot should not be heavily used on skin that will be significantly exposed to sunlight in the following 72 hours. A ‘bergapten-free’ partially-refined variety is available, and is an excellent choice for massage and skin care formulas.

Bergamot is an excellent antiseptic for use in cases of acne, oily skin, and infected skin. As a natural toner and detoxifier, Bergamot may help to prevent premature aging of the dermis. Bergamot oil is noted to have a slightly irritating effect on the skin in high concentrations, but the opposite healing effects occur when the oil is used at low concentrations (1% or lower in a seed or nut oil). Bergamot’s general deodorizing effects derive from its antiseptic properties, which are also effective against bladder and urinary infections. Adding three to four drops of Bergamot and soaking in a warm bath can help bring relief to the early stages of urinary tract infections.

Bergamot essential oil is foremost a miraculous neuro-tonic, and a powerful helper against depression caused by fatigue or unreleased tensions and frustrations. Aromatic massage with the oil is naturally indicated for those with poor circulation, heart palpitations, hypertension, and general stress related dis-ease. Depression due to the stagnation of life-force energy is often the result of accumulated stress and repressed emotions of grief, frustration or anger. A protective oil by nature, Bergamot is indicated whenever the flow of natural energy is disrupted, leading to imbalanced states such as irritability, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. Bergamot encourages the release of repressed and inhibited feelings, thus helping to release and decompress. The sparkling and yet gentle floral scent gives the oil a sedative yet uplifting quality with the primary effects being calming, balancing centering and clarifying.

Bergamot is further indicated where anxiety and stress related symptoms present as a loss or change in appetite. Bergamot’s antidepressant properties and its regulatory effect on appetite offer assistance when used in cases of eating imbalances such as anorexia nervosa, emotional eating, and bulimia. A natural digestive aid and antispasmodic makes Bergamot effective in cases of colic as well as helping to reduce and relieve flatulence. Bergamot may be used by itself, or in a recipe with other digestive supporting oils like Roman Chamomile, Coriander Seed and Sweet Fennel; an excellent technique is to gently massage a low-dilution formula into the abdomen.

That Bergamot essential oil has found its way into our lives in forms that we inhale, splash on ourselves, and even eat is no mistake. Humans have certainly developed a fondness for its brilliant touch to the olfactory and gustatory senses. Its greatest potential may be as a ‘broad-spectrum’ natural antidepressant; the yellow-green color of the oil hints to its affinity to the heart and solar plexus chakras, where many of us are challenged to remain open in our daily routines. It is the opening of the heart and a fluid allowing of the emotions that lies at the center of our healing journeys. Using Bergamot through all primary aromatherapy techniques can assist in this process, opening us to freedom and joys in our everyday lives.

Bergamot essential oil blends well with Chamomile, Geranium, Jasmine, Lavender, Lemon, Orange, Neroli, Tangerine, and Ylang Ylang essential oils. Bergamot can be used by means of bath, compresses, massage, or inhalation. Blends utilizing the Bergamot essential oil’s uplifting and releasing effects are recommended as follows (add per tablespoon of carrier oil; ‘parts’ may be substituted for ‘drops’ to make your own concentration): To release aggravation and pressure – 2 drops Roman Chamomile, 2 drops Bergamot and 2 drops Sweet Orange. To overcome nervousness and agitation – 3 drops Lavender, 2 drops Neroli and 1 part Bergamot. When frustrated and negative – 3 drops Bergamot, 2 drops Sweet Orange and 1 part Neroli. To enhance relaxation and self-confidence – 2 drops Lavender and 1 part Bergamot. These blends may be used in a diffuser as well, to inhale the uplifting fragrances of these oils throughout your day.

Hearing Aids – Know how it works.

by David C. John

While our advanced hearing aids have indeed been around for literally decades, the origins of the devices can be traced to a conical object that needed to be held up to the ear manually. Far from being very convenient, the original funnel shaped devices did work, however and they achieved this by directing the sound into the ear. It’s probably a given that many people know that contemporary hearing devices have a much higher degree of technology, but not everyone truly understands how they work.

The usage of small microphones inside hearing aids is how they work. First, as the device gets the sound, it is converted to electrical or digital signals, then it is reconverted back to sound as it is sent to a speaker. Microphone settings are dependent upon how bad the hearing loss is and how much distraction is present in the person’s every day environment.

The type and level of noise is the meaning of environment in this case. A person who needs to hear high frequency noises will need to have a different setting than a person who is constantly exposed to a conversational environment, for example. It is true that this device is very important and all of these factors will help your audiologist come up with the right setting for it, however, this does not begin to explain entirely how these devices work.

The receiving and conversion of signals is very important in hearing aids, and there are three basic types of technology that allow those processes to happen. The least and advanced technology and the least expensive type go hand in hand: this is the analog adjustable. The volume and other specifications can be fixed by your audiologist. The product is made by a factory in a custom design for you so you are able to control the volume either manually or automatically from that point.

Through the analog programmable is another way the hearing aid works. The analog adjustable is considerably behind this version of circuitry because the analog programmable can be programmed by a computer. The analog adjustable is considerably behind this version of circuitry because the analog programmable can be programmed by a computer.

Since different situations require different settings, the user is furnished with a remote control to control the settings. If you want a device that is the most advanced, you would go for the digital programmable device but it is also the one that is going to cost you the most amount of money. It took a good deal of time to get this device to be an alternative people could use, as it was first impossible to make, and then too large to be of any use so scientists have since refined the process.

The way these types of hearing aids function is through DSP, or Digital Sound Processing. This uses a computer chip to analyze and process the sound date before it is amplified in the ear. Through the use of billions of digital number codes stored in the device, the sound is given the correct setting. At this point, the data is changed back into sound, as it gets sent through the ear. For most, the greatest benefit these digital modes provide is that they protect from the frequency of feedback and most times, very little is needed to be done by the person wearing the aid to help in this process as it is automatic.

In recent years, hearing aids have increased dramatically. If you need help hearing, you have a variety of options available. Hearing aids are a very important device that works through the aid of technology.

Many Have Found Relief Through The Home Treatment Of Hemorrhoids

by Kyle Stanley

Hemorrhoids are a very common condition, afflicting millions all over the globe at any given time. It’s commonality is no comfort to sufferers though. Hemorrhoids are painful, uncomfortable and downright unpleasant. Heredity seems to be a large factor in the development of hemorrhoids, but lifestyle factors play a large part as well. Not every person whose family history would suggest a susceptibility to the condition develops it.

Some of the people affected sit for long periods of time because of work or their sedentary lifestyle. Others develop the symptoms because of poor eating habits or the lack of exercise. Some other people develop the symptoms because they strain when they go to the bathroom.

As unpleasant as hemorrhoids can be, there is hope, There are a number of effective methods for the home treatment of hemorrhoids which can relieve much of the suffering, even alleviate the problem entirely in mild cases. In extreme cases, surgery may be required, but many cases will respond well without a doctor’s intervention or prescription medications.

Whether a home treatment of hemorrhoids, or in consultation with a pharmacist, relief is usually available without a physician’s care. The home treatment of hemorrhoids should be tried before seeing a physician for the condition. If home treatment of hemorrhoids is ineffective, then other courses of treatment should be tried.

Home Treatment Of Hemorrhoids Is Inexpensive And Effective

Changing old habits are part of the home treatment of hemorrhoids to relieve the pain caused by them. Using the home treatment of hemorrhoids normally focuses on changing bathroom habits, which will keep the condition from progressing.

Medications such as aspirin or something along that line may be making the condition worse. With the approval of their doctor, they may want to stop taking this medicine. Baby wipes are an alternative to tissue for reducing pain and suffering from this condition.

Switching to a fragrance free soap (these fragrances often contain ingredients which can irritate hemorrhoids) can help relieve symptoms to some extent. Ice will also help the sufferer, both in terms of pain relief and reducing inflammation – ice can be used for up to ten minutes, several times a day.

A warm bath can also reduce pain and swelling considerably, and can be done several times a day. A soak of about fifteen minutes will help reduce the suffering caused by hemorrhoids. If this home treatment of hemorrhoids does not bring relief, your pharmacist can suggest over the counter treatments which can bring relief.

Men Skin Care – Tons Of Different Lotions For Men

by Tom Beaty

In this day and time even men should take good care of their skin. Women are not the only ones that should do skin care. Many manufacturers have now realized that men are in the market for products to use on their skin. Men’s skin care products such as face wash and body wash are seen in the stores now. We need to examine how men need to care for their skin.

Men have large pores compared to what women have. Their skin is oilier than women’s skin is too. This creates a situation where men’s skin can actually get dirtier than women’s skin gets and need cleansing. Have to be careful what you use to cleanse your skin though men. You should never use deodorant soap on your facial skin because it can be too harsh. There are some real good facial cleansers to be used instead.

Facial washes can be used to tenderly clean the facial area. Since facial washes leave no residue they actually clean your face better than soap. This helps the pores not clog so bad. Many cleansers have been on the market for women that actually reduce pore size. Men can also use these products. Men just need to purchase one for oily skin. You can nowadays find natural cleansers also.

To top off the cleansing you need to use a toner. A toning solution is a must because it brings the skin to its recommended PH level which is healthier for the skin. The toners also can be bought organically based too. So cleanse and tone to revitalize your skin and encourage your skin to have a healthy glow.

A good routine to get into is shaving first then cleansing and toning. Then gently rub on some moisturizer that is water based. The water based ones are a less greasy and that is what your skin needs men. The moisturizer should be free of alcohol too because that dries the skin out and counteracts the moisturizing effect.

You do not need to ex foliate the skin every day but it should be done weekly. By ex foliating the skin you get all the bad dead skin cells. This is the best thing to invigorate the skin totally. Your skin will looked refreshed. Check out which ex foliating products today and see which one suits you.

For the larger parts of your body use special body washes to get the job done. Like the face washes these rinse completely off leaving the skin feeling much cleaner than when cleaned with soap. There is quite an assortment of men’s body washes on the market today. So you will have to try some of them and see which one you enjoy using.

You need to protect your skin with a sunscreen that not only protects for the UVB rays but the more harmful UVA rays too. Unprotected sun exposure can cause serious skin problems the worst of which is skin cancer. So apply your sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more when you are going to be outside for too long of periods of time also make sure to apply again every few hours. Don’t forget to coat your lips with a lip balm that has a good SPF too.

Exercise and proper diet can help the skin too by stimulating it from the inside to be healthy. Drink the right amount of water too. Smoking and drinking alcohol can do harm to the skin so if you must do these things please do them in moderation. Men if you follow the few tips given here you will soon see a vast improvement in the health of your skin.

A Short Guide To Aromatherapy

by Lorraine Butler

Aromatherapy is a sort of herbal medicine, and one that is rapidly growing in popularity. This practice relies for the most part on the use of essential oils from botanicals such as flowers, trees and other plants. Distilled by a steam process, these oils can be effective in alleviating quite a few diseases and other physical ills.

Each of the literally hundreds of essential oils employed in the practice of aromatherapy have different applications. Some oils are used for a calming effect, others to provide a boost in the energy levels of the patient.

Aromatherapy is particularly effective in the treatment of chronic pain, especially in the case of those recovering from injuries. Aromatherapy has useful applications for some serious illnesses too and fortunately does not come along with some of the potentially severe side effects of chemically based pharmaceuticals.

What it Can Do For You

Aromatherapy is often chosen as an alternative to conventional medicines by those who are seeking natural products for their ailments. It is a good choice for those trying to steer clear of chemical medicines since it is generally free of the side effects associated with prescription drugs.

Aromatherapy is used to treat anything from a simple insect bite or sore throat to minor fungal infections. It is even being used to treat more complex matters such as Alzheimer’s with some degree of success in some cases.

What Comes Next

Firstly, you must learn more about aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is an ancient art that can be traced back for thousands of years. There is therefore much to be learned about aromatherapy and if you are considering starting a treatment then you would be wise to learn what you can beforehand.

Next, learn about the practical applications of aromatherapy. For instance, the aromatherapy massage. Unlike any other sort of massage, essential oils are used for their relaxing, soothing properties. As the scents of the oils are inhaled, the brain responds by lowering blood pressure and heart rate, causing a sensation of relaxation.

Advocates of aromatherapy will agree that it is highly effective in treating stress and pain disorders. The overall effect of reduced stress and general feeling of well being is maybe why people recovering from sports injuries respond well to this treatment.

Hearing Aids: Finding a Perfect Match

by Jennifer Ho

Hearing loss is generally categorized as conductive and “sensorineural”. Conductive hearing loss refers to abnormal transmission of sound to the outer or middle ear. This can be easily fixed by hearing aids that use analog technology through amplification of sound. Sensorineural hearing loss is caused by cochlear or auditory nerve malfunction. Since this is more of a sound processing problem, this requires some digital technology, and this is where digital hearing aids can help.

Common hearing aids use analog technology and they generally come as either conventional or programmable types. Both use the principle of sound amplification by magnifying sound waves. Conventional aids come with a regular volume control for increasing or decreasing sound. While programmable aids basically do the same thing, they have extra features that allow exact fine-tuning and adjusting to an individual’s specific needs.

Digital hearing aids have digital circuitry and provide crisp and clear sound. They are programmed based on your unique hearing loss. Its circuitry performs millions of complex calculations in a snap to enable digital processing of sound, canceling noise, feedback and distortion. It converts gathered sound into digital format, then processes it with digital technology and outputs it into your ear as analog sound. These instruments allow for greater flexibility and customization for patients’ different needs.

Hearing aids vary in size and shape. But they generally come down to four basic classifications. Behind the ear or BTE models have a plastic casing that houses the electronic parts used for amplification of sound. As the name says, it is worn behind the ear and has a tube that connects to an ear mold for fitting in the ear canal. They are easy to use and commonly recommended for children.

In the ear or ITE models are tailored to fit a certain individual’s outer ear. They are recommended for patients with mild to severe hearing problems, although a bit difficult to use as compared to BTE’s due to their size. In the canal or ITC’s are smaller than ITE’s and only take up half the space of your ear. They are much less visible compared to ITE and BTE models, and are recommended for mild to moderate hearing loss.

CIC’s, being the smallest of all hearing aids can appear to be unnoticeable and makes patients look like they are not wearing them at all. They only cater to select individuals with ear canals large enough for the instrument to be inserted and are not recommended for severe hearing problems.

It’s easy to be confused with so much information on hearing aids out there. So how do we get a custom-fit hearing instrument? The answer will always vary since different individuals have different degrees of hearing loss. A patient’s lifestyle and communication will also be factors.

With that being said, the better question might be: Which one is best for me? Your friend might say that he has the best one out there, but it may not be the best for you. Only by undergoing hearing tests and thorough evaluation of your hearing loss problems can you get the right instrument for yourself.

Remember that your needs will always be different from others, and on choosing hearing aids, it’s no different. A doctor, audiologist or hearing instrument specialist can conduct accurate tests that will pinpoint the right instrument for you, be it analog or digital hearing aids.

Photographic Memory

by The Alternate Medic

People who possess a photographic memory are more common than you might think. Some see it as a blessing others see it as a curse.

What is a photographic memory? A photographic memory is when you can see events in your minds eye as if they were taking place again right in front of you. It is a very apt expression, for it is as if your brain has somehow taken a perfect snapshot with every detail frozen in place. Possessing a photographic memory has its positive and negative aspects. Let’s take a look at these points from someone who possessed this kind of memory and then lost it.

My Journey

This writer used to have a photographic memory. I could remember, in minute detail, comedian’s monologues, song lyrics, family conversations and the names and years of all the winners of the Kentucky Derby. When I was a child, this photographic memory served me extremely well in school, because I could remember lessons on the test day. It was also nice to be relied on as a walking reference desk.

Unfortunately, Then I Grew Up

The amazement of my classmates soon changed, people around me became jealous, rather than being amazed by my photographic memory, they grew to positively despise it. I could remember things they said that they couldn’t for the life of them remember. It got to the stage where no one would talk around me and they even began to exclude me from their company. My classmates shunned me, because I knew all of the answers. Sometimes I would purposely give a wrong answer just to make the rest of the class laugh.

It is obvious that the reason people without a photographic memory resent someone with one is that no one likes to be proven that they are lacking and quite often wrong. If you want to retain and develop a photographic memory, be very careful who you let know of your ability. Do not display your talent on your sleeve for the world to see rather keep it under raps only displaying it in a humble quite way. Although this is not fair, this is the way the world works.

Unfortunately, I lost my photographic memory practically the day I hit 30. Or was it 29? Maybe it was when I was 28anyway, I lost it and haven’t been able retrieve it. I do miss not having a photographic memory anymore, but, as time passes, I have even gotten over the hurt caused by my classmates and later colleagues. I do often wonder if I had made a conscious effort to develop my photographic memory wither it would still be with me today and how it would have affected my life?

Children are more prone to having a photographic memory than adults, for the simple reason that children don’t have as much to remember. If your child pops up with, “That’s not what you said! You said this,” they are not trying to make fun of you; they are actually trying to be helpful. Having a photographic memory can be hard for a child at times, since it seems they are so different. Be sure you let your child know that you appreciate their ability, but encourage them to keep it a secret as a special gift that they have been given, try not to let it go to your head but rather nurture it and let it develop quietly in the background, I am sure you will be happy you did.
